Continental's New Thailand Tyre Plant gets the First Machine |

As of now, this plant entered its machinery installation phase with the introduction of a Calendering machine. This is one of the largest equipment in this factory that is almost 100m in length. This new plant is a part of Continental’s Vision 2025 strategy Vision 2025 is a growth strategy by Continental which began back in 2011 with the investment of around £1.78 billion. The primary objective of this strategy is to expand Continental’s production capacity globally. This company also plans to extend its sales worldwide with this investment that is the largest in Continental’s history. Today, they are the third largest tyre manufacturing company in the world, and their products are the preferred car tyres in Wolverhampton to London. The beginning The Vision 2025 was initiated with the acquisition of Modi Tyres Company Limited (MTCL) in India. Renamed Continental Tyres India Ltd., this plant focuses on producing tyres for cars, trucks, and buses. But wait, they did not stop there. From India, Continental went to Russia and established a plant in Kaluga in November 2011. The construction was completed in 2 years and started contributing further to Continental’s Vision 2025. …and they continued. From Russia, they moved to the USA and founded their new plant in Sumter in 2012. Production from this plant began form 2013 with the second phase for expansion beginning from 2015. The Thailand plant The Thailand plant is the 7th Greenfield plant for Continental. It will become part of the already existing 13 plants in 12 countries. This plant aims to amalgamate German engineering with Thai expertise for the production of high-quality tyres. It will specifically cater to the market of Thailand and also the rest of Asia. Continental’s Senior Vice President Manufacturing PLT and Tyre Logistics, Bernhard Trilken mentions that they have partnered with educational establishments in the locality for finding and developing local talents. Head of Continental’s Tyre Division, Nikolai Setzer thanked the Thai Board of Investment, the Ministry of Industry, and the Thai Government for all their support and co-operation. The Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony for the Rayong plant was held back in 21st November 2017. Among the attendees were Vice President Marketing & Sales Passenger and Light Truck Tyres ASEAN, Cameron Wilson and other management heads of Continental. Also present was Chief of Provincial Administration Organization for Maenamkoo district, Chalee Chotiwong. The number’s game Continental has invested around £220 million in this plant and estimates to churn out about 4 million new car tyres or light trucks and passenger vehicles every year by 2022. This plant will employ approximately 900 workers. Continental expects the production of this plant to begin from 2019. This will significantly reduce the average cost of a tyre, making sure that vehicle owners can use fit them as their car tyres in Wolverhampton or any other part of the country. Continental has been a key player in not only Asia and Americas, but also Europe. Their plant in Otrokovice, Czech Republic is the largest plant worldwide.
